Using the Library
Membership and access to City of PAE libraries is free, and you are always welcome. With your membership, you can explore over 130 libraries across the state.
To get a full library membership visit any one of our library locations with some ID that has your name and address. Our friendly staff will provide you with a library card on the spot so that you can instantly start borrowing to your heart’s content. Your new library card will give you access to everything your PAE libraries have to offer, in-branch and online.
If you only want access to our online resources, you can sign up to a digital membership right now and access all our online resources straight away. If you only have a digital membership, you are unable to borrow physical items, but we can convert your digital membership into a full membership if you visit one of our branches with some ID that has your name and address.

Tools, Sensory tools, STEAM Kits, Parenting Packs, toys, jigsaws, and board games must be returned to the library they were borrowed from during opening hours.
Renewals
Most items will automatically renew up to two times, if no one has requested them. Check via your library account, the Libraries SA app, or call.
Lost or Damaged Items
Lost or damaged an item? Don’t stress! Just drop in or give us a call, and we’ll help you sort it out so you can get back to borrowing - even if it was 15 years ago!
What is a Hold?
A hold is a way to reserve a library item—such as a book, DVD, or other resource—so that you can borrow it when it becomes available. If the item you want is currently checked out by someone else, or located at another branch, placing a hold ensures you’ll be next in line to borrow it.
How to Place a Hold
- Online: Log in to your library account via the website or app, search for the item, and click “Place Hold.”
- In Person: Ask a staff member at the library to help you reserve the item.
- By Phone: Call your local library and request a hold on the item you want.
What Happens Next?
- The library will set aside the item for you as soon as it’s available.
- You’ll receive a notification by email or SMS when your item is ready to collect.
- You can then visit the library to pick up your reserved item.
