Justice of the Peace (JP) Service at PAE Libraries
Local Justices of the Peace generously volunteer their time to provide a free JP service to the community at PAE Libraries. Libraries are public space and privacy may not be guaranteed.
As this is a volunteer-led service, JP availability cannot be guaranteed on the day. This is a drop‑in service only, and bookings are not required.
Any service cancellations will be published on Humanitix. Alternatively, you can locate a Justice of the Peace near you by using the Justice of the Peace search.
Before You Visit
To help ensure your documents can be witnessed efficiently, please read the following carefully:
- Arrive early, as wait times and queues can be high.
- Take a number (if the facility has this feature).
- Allow enough time (or days) to have your documents witnessed, as JPs may not always be available.
- Bring valid photo identification (such as a driver’s licence, passport, or student card), as most documents require identity verification.
- Bring original documents if you require copies to be certified. In some cases valid electronic documents may also be presented for certification.
- Carefully read any instructions provided with your forms to ensure you bring all required supporting documents.
- If you require printing or photocopying, please allow extra time and ensure that these copies are ready for presentation prior to contact with the JP. Costs can be paid by cash or debit/credit card.
- Arrive at least 30 minutes before the end of the session. If you arrive close to the session finish time, the JP may be unable to assist you.
Important Information
The staff cannot witness documents. If your documents require an additional witness, you must bring that person with you. If the JP is required to witness a document signature those who are to apply their signature should be present.
JP service times are subject to volunteer availability. Please check Humanitix for updates, as it is updated daily with any changes or cancellations.
Reducing Waiting Times
To help keep wait times manageable:
- The drop-in JP service is intended for routine document witnessing and certification. Documents that are lengthy or complex, such as affidavits requiring multiple endorsements, may require additional time and alternative arrangements to ensure they can be completed appropriately.
- If you have a complex or lengthy document, such as an Advance Care Directive, that may take longer than a standard appointment, our team will work with you to ensure appropriate support is provided. Where additional time is required, we may arrange a dedicated follow-up session or alternative support option to allow your document to be completed with appropriate care and attention, while also ensuring the service remains accessible to other customers.
- Each person is allocated approximately 5 minutes, allowing as many people as possible to be assisted.
