Cloud Atlas
David Mitchell
Shortlisted for the Booker Prize in 2004, David Mitchell's "Cloud Atlas" is an ambitious novel that intertwines six distinctive stories. Each story is set in a different time period and location, and Mitchell uses a variety of genres such as Historical fiction, Mystery/Detective Story, and Dystopian.
The novel's structure is similar to Russian nesting dolls, where each story takes place within another, creating an interconnected narrative. The overarching themes of the novel are greed, slavery and imprisonment, aging, mortality and reincarnation.
Inspired by Italo Calvino's "If on a Winter's Night a Traveler", "Cloud Atlas" is a must-read for everyone who enjoys engaging and genre-crossing stories.
