Best book I’ve read this year and I have read a lot of books! The Women by Kristin Hannah
Women can be heroes. Twenty-year-old trainee nurse Frankie McGrath hears these words and is inspired to join the Army Nurse Corps. She is shipped out to Vietnam and, while she excels as a nurse, she is also horrified by what she sees. With the tremendous pressure of war and constant incoming casualties, she builds lifelong friendships with her fellow nurses.
Returning home to the US, Frankie is shocked by the reaction of the general public to anyone in uniform and struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder. Leaning heavily on her nursing friends, she needs to find a way to adjust to civilian life.
The Women is a powerful and emotionally charged novel that explores themes of love, loss, and resilience through the lives of its central characters. The story is set against the backdrop of significant historical events, providing a rich tapestry for Hannah’s exploration of her characters' personal struggles and triumphs.
If you only read one book this year, make it this one!
